About Us

Welcome to the Northern Virginia Food Allergy Group – I am so glad you found us!  We are a group of local moms and dads working together to navigate the world of food allergies.  We all know a new diagnosis can be life-altering and extremely difficult – we are here to help!

There is a plethora of information on the web – some helpful, but a lot of scary misinformation too.  The first thing I suggest is to take a look at the FARE field guide for newly diagnosed patients and families:

 https://www.foodallergy.org/newly-diagnosed/food-allergy-field-guide

I also suggest joining and introducing yourself in our Facebook group.  This is a great way to connect with other members in your exact same “food allergy boat”.

I hope that our group can help you and your family feel more confident about handling food allergies.  Please remember that you are not alone – we understand and we are only a few clicks away, day or night.

Sincerely,

Brett Fox, Leader of the Northern Virginia Food Allergy Group

From Our Founders

Our children were diagnosed with life-threatening food allergies as young toddlers. We met through our daughters’ preschool and soon realized that we had something special in common: a shared need to convert our fear and frustration into a more positive approach to managing our kids’ allergies. We’ve worked closely with our allergists and we’ve received invaluable help from the Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network – among other resources – but we know that nothing beats a phone call or email from a friend with good news about a “safe” recipe, tips on handling birthday parties, or updates on new research. So we want to begin connecting the community of parents and individuals in this same situation and help raise the comfort levels of the many people in Northern Virginia who are living with food allergies. We can’t provide medical advice, we aren’t experts on all the resources available, but we know a support group in Northern Virginia is long past due. We hope that this website and our online forums offer a welcoming and supportive environment for all families dealing with the life-changing experiences that a food allergy diagnosis brings.
